Day 1 Arrive Hanoi (-)
Upon arrival at the airport you will meet with your guide and transferred to your hotel in downtown Hanoi.
Day 2 Hanoi (B)
After breakfast, start your full day tour of Vietnam’s capital city, including Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Monday and Friday), the traditional stilt house and the revered One-Pillar Pagoda. After that visit Vietnam’s first university, the thousand-year-old Temple of Literature. In the afternoon, visit the Ethnology Museum (closed on Monday) where you can discover the diversity of Vietnam’s many ethnic groups. In the evening you will enjoy a traditional water puppet show. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel. Remark: Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum closes from 08 September to 08 November for annual maintenance.
Day 3 Hanoi – Halong Bay (B/L/D)
After breakfast, driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Ha Long City for your cruise around Ha Long Bay (without guide). Being known as one of the UNESCO sites, Ha Long Bay is praised for its beautiful scattered limestone karsts and isles. The journey from Ha Noi to Ha Long City takes about 4 hours through Red River Delta with stops along the way for small breaks. Arrive in Ha Long City around noon. Board a traditional wooden junk and begin your exploration of magical Halong Bay, one of Southeast Asia’s premier tourist destinations. An excellent, fresh seafood lunch and dinner will be served on the boat. Overnight onboard.
Day 4 Halong – Hanoi – Danang – Hoi An (B)
After breakfast on board, we keep cruising on the bay. You will disembark late in the morning and then return to Hanoi Airport (without guide) where you will take a brief flight to Danang (Flight VN175 18:10-19:30). Stop en route to visit a pottery village if time is permits. The driver will welcome you (no guide) and transfer to your hotel in Hoi An Town (30 km – 45 minute driving).
Day 5 Hoi An (B/L)
After breakfast, ride in a three-wheeled cycle (or bike) to visit the village of vegetables, Tra Que (about 20 minutes). Tra Que village has been known for its special aromatic herbs, mint and basil; though the leaves of those plants are smaller than usual. They have a very particular aroma. You will learn how to plant and water vegetables from local people. Then learn to cook some local specialties (for example Tam Huu, composed of shrimp, pork and aromatic herbs). Then enjoy what you have cooked. Afternoon return to Hoi An town, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site because of its unusually well-preserved ancient streets and homes. Set out to explore the quaint cobblestone streets of the town with more than 2-century-old Chinese houses. The atmosphere of the town is a combination of Chinese, Japanese and local culture. People in Hoi An are among the friendliest of the country. Sites include the Japanese Bridge, the Chinese Temple, and Phung Hung Chinese-trading house.
Day 6 Hoi An – Saigon (B)
The morning is free for leisure until good time, you will leave for Danang airport where you take the flight to Saigon. Flight: VN113 (12:05 – 13:20). Arrive in Saigon, transfer with guide to. Saigon is Vietnam’s commercial capital and a city of extraordinary energy. Nowhere is Vietnam’s rush to modernize more visible. Despite its rush to modernity, Saigon, as it is still known, is a friendly and welcoming place with many reminders of its turbulent past and a palpable momentum towards the future. This afternoon, begin a tour of Saigon’s famous and historic city landmarks. The tour will take you through the heart of the city along Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat) past the Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh Square, Municipal Theatre and Notre Dame Cathedral. Tour continues with the Reunification Palace (formerly the Presidential Palace) and War Remnants Museum.
Day 7 Depart Saigon (B)
This morning we will leave the city by private vehicle to visit the amazing tunnel network of Cu Chi (60 km – 1.5 hour driving). This incredible system, covering almost 250km in length was shelter to over 16,000 Vietcong guerrillas during the wars. Initially started in 1948 to provide shelter against the French air and ground sweeps, the network went on to serve as communication routes, storage facilities, hospitals and living quarters for Vietnamese fighters throughout the American war. If you are interested (and game) you can even descend into the tunnels to learn more about the harsh conditions faced by Vietcong guerrillas who lived there. Return to the city center in the late morning. Room is available until noon only. Then you will be transferred (without guide) to the airport for your flight back home.
