ABOUT CAMBODIA

         Official name of Cambodia is Kingdom of Cambodia.  It is located at southern part of the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. At the Northwest part bordered by Thailand , Laos to the northeast, Vietnam is at the east, and Gulf of Thailand is at the southwest part.

         Cambodian official language is Khmer. English is getting popular. Old people speak French.

         Their currency is Riel. You can easily change your national currencies at airport, banks or hotels.

         Cambodia population is 15 million. 95 percent of the population believes Theravada Buddhism. Islam and Christianity follow it.

         Phnom Penh, which is the capital of Cambodia, is political, economic and cultural center. 1 million people living in the capital. It is also the gateway to an exotic land…. the world heritage site, the largest religious complex in the world, the temples of Angkor in the west, the beaches of the southern coast and the ethnic minorities of the north-eastern provinces. The city offers several cultural and historical attractions including the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and the National Museum.

          Totally two seasons in Cambodia. From May to October, monsoon season and from November to April dry season. Coolest period is December to January.

        Most Cambodian dress up casually except when they are attending formal events. It is common to see men and women using Krama, a Long, Narrow checked cotton cloth round their neck. The krama is just like a piece of clothes.

       Lightweight, loose-fitting, cotton clothes is recommended and long sleeved t-shirts can be included for protection from mosquitoes and the sun. During the rainy season an umbrella is more convenient than a rain coast. In hotels and restaurants you should take a jacket for air conditioning.

        US citizens need tourist visa for traveling in Cambodia. You can get visa on arrival at the airport and required documents are: visa form fill out (they can get at the arrival terminal), two 4 x 6 cm photos, their passport valid at least 6 months and  USD 30 in cash and they will get visa just in about 25 mns.
