Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Athens
Upon your arrival at Athens airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Athens.
Day 2 – Athens
On your morning city tour you will observe the striking contracts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Highlights include Constitution (Syntagma) Square at the center of the city, House of Parliament, Memorial to the Unknown Soldier and National Library. Driving down Herod Atticus Street on the way to the Acropolis, you will see the Evzones in their colorful uniforms, the Presidential Palace and the Panatheanic Stadium (where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896).
Enroute there is also a brief stop at the Temple of the Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch. At the Acropolis, you’ll visit its Museum and the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: the Propylaea, Temple of Athens Nike, Erechteion, and the monument that symbolizes Greece, the Parthenon. The rest of the day is free for Independent activities. Overnight in Athens. (B)
Day 3 – Full Day Excursion to Delphi
After an early breakfast, we depart Athens and motor through the fertile plain of Boeotia, passing through the towns of Thebes (associated with the tragedy of King Oedipus), Levadia,and Arahova, en route to Delphi. Upon our arrival in the center of the Hellenic world, known as the “Omphalos” (Navel) of the Earth”, we proceed up the slopes of Mt. Parnassus, through a majestic and beautiful landscape to the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. Then we visit the Treasury of the Athenians, Temple of Apollo and the museum containing such masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture as the bronze Charioteer and the legendary athlete, Aghias. After lunch in the modern village of Delphi, we return to Athens for the night. (B, L)
Day 4 – Departure from Athens
Free time until you are transferred to the airport. (B)
