Itinerary
Day 1 Wednesday- Depart from USA or Canada
Day 2 Thursday – Arrival in Istanbul
Arrive in Istanbul, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure.
Day 3 Friday – Byzantine and Ottoman Heritage Tour
After breakfast at your hotel, you begin a full day sightseeing tour of Istanbul. Highlights include a visit to the illustrious Topkapi Palace (harem section is optional), the ancient Roman Hippodrome (site of chariot races) and the Hagia Sophia, the Byzantine church that was converted to a mosque in 15th century. You will also visit the famed “Blue Mosque” and the Grand Bazaar, the world’s largest covered bazaar, where you’ll have free time to discover some of the nearly 4,000 tiny shops that line its maze of passageways. Day 4 Saturday- Half-Day Bosphorus Cruise
This morning you’ll be picked-up at your hotel and proceed to the embarkation point of your Bosphorus cruise. The cruise offers you wonderful views of Istanbul’s European and Asian sides, who shores are lined with marble palaces, centuries-old wooden villas constructed in the Ottoman style, luxurious apartment houses and other residences. You will also see Rumeli Fortress, a fortification built to control entry to the Bosphorus Strait and protect Istanbul. At the end of the cruise (approx.1:00 pm), you will be driven back to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for independent activities. (B)
Day 5 Sunday – Istanbul- Ephesus, Kusadasi
This morning you’ll be picked at your hotel and transferred to the airport for the short flight to Izmir. You will be met upon arrival and proceed to the shrine of Mother Mary, the home believed to be where she spent the last years of her life. After your visit you begin you tour of the ancient Roman city of Ephesus. Your tour begins with a walk along its marble streets, viewing he Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Trajan Fountain. At the end of your walk, you will see the “Great Theater” where St. Paul preached. Then it’s time to relax and enjoy a buffet lunch at a Turkish restaurant. After lunch, you visit a carpet cooperative, where you’ll see how exquisite Turkish carpets are hand-woven. Then you proceed to, the Ephesus Archeological Museum and the Temple Of Artemis (Diana), the site of one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.” Then it’s on to Kusadasi, where you spend the night. Day 6 Monday – Kusadasi to Pamukkale
After breakfast you depart for Pamukkale, famed for its healing thermal/mineral baths and amazing, snow-white calcium terraces referred to as “petrified waterfalls”. After lunch, you visit Hierapolis, where you’ll see its magnificently preserved Necropolis, main street, and gates. Then you return to Kusadasi for the night. (B, L, D)
Day 7 Tuesday – Kusadasi, Cruise to Patmos and Rhodes
After a morning at leisure in Kusadasi, you will be transferred to the port to embark on your Greek Island Cruise. The first port of call is Patmos, the tiny, rocky island where the exiled St. John the Divine received the Revelation upon which the last book of the New Testament is based. (An optional tour of the 11th century monastery of St. John is available.) Dinner and overnight onboard, while you sail to Rhodes. (B, L, D)
Day 8 Wednesday – Rhodes (Cruise)
Morning arrival at the island of Rhodes, the “Isle of Roses” and site of the ancient Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Upon arrival you are free to sightsee on your own or enjoy a swim on the one of the islands lovrely beaches. An optional tour to Lindos will also be available. The tour features the Bay of St. Paul, where St. Paul is said to have landed; the acropolis, dedicated to the goddess Athena; and a stroll through the town’s medieval street of Knights and past its centuries-old stone mansions. In the late afternoon, you sail to Crete. Dinner and overnight onboard. (B, L, D)
Day 9 Thursday – Crete and Santorini (Cruise)
This morning you arrive at Heraklion, the capital of ancient Crete, and you will join the tour to home of the Palace of Knossos, once the center of the Minoan civilization, and one of the world’s most acclaimed archaeological sites. At noon, your cruise continues to the Santorini, the most spectacular of the Greek Islands, whose town of Thira is perched on a cliff created by volcanic eruption. You will visit to the monastery of Prophet Ilias, for a breath-taking view, deep inhalations of clean, pure, Cycladic air and memorial photos, so as to be the envy of all who didn’t come along. The tour continues its passage towards the north. To the east, in the background, you will have settlements like Kamari and Monolithos, while you will pass through Fira, the small traditional villages of Firostefani and Imerovigli with delicate architecture and beauties, to eventually arrive at the settlement of Oia. During the entire route, to the west you will have before your eyes the lace-like caldera, the little islands of Thirasia, Palea and Nea Kameni and an unsurpassable panoramic view. In Oia you will have plenty of time to stroll through the marble-paved alleys, to gaze at the adorably cute shops, to take pictures, to become acquainted with the characteristic buildings, carved into the rocks and the unusual captains’ manors, the settlement Ammoudi at the foot of the caldera… After your curiosity has been sated of the area which is characterized as being of “exceptional natural beauty”, your return begins … (B, L, D)
Day 10 Friday – Piraeus, Athens
After breakfast, you disembark your cruise ship at Piraeus port and be transferred to your hotel in Athens. The afternoon is free for independent activities. (B)
Day 11 Saturday – Athens
On your morning city tour you will observe the striking contracts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Highlights include Constitution (Syntagma) Square at the center of the city,House of Parliament, Memorial to the Unknown Soldier and National Library. Driving down Herod Atticus Street on the way to the Acropolis, you will see the Evzones in their colorful uniforms, the Presidential Palace and the Panatheanic Stadium (where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896). Enroute there is also a brief stop at the Temple of the Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch. At the Acropolis, you’ll visit its Museum and the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: the Propylaea, Temple of Athens Nike, Erechteion, and the monument that symbolizes Greece, the Parthenon. The rest of the day is free for Independent activities. Overnight in Athens. (B)
Day 12 Sunday – Full Day Excursion to Delphi
After an early breakfast, we depart Athens and motor through the fertile plain of Boeotia, passing through the towns of Thebes (associated with the tragedy of King Oedipus), Levadia,and Arachova, en route to Delphi. Upon our arrival in the center of the Hellenic world, known as the “Omphalos” (Navel) of the Earth”, we proceed up the slopes of Mt. Parnassus, through a majestic and beautiful landscape to the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. Then we visit the Treasury of the Athenians, Temple of Apollo and the museum containing such masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture as the bronze Charioteer and the legendary athlete, Agias. After lunch in the modern village of Delphi, we return to Athens for the night. (B, L)
Day 13 Monday- Athens to Cairo
This morning you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Cairo. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel. The balance of the day and evening is at leisure. Overnight in Cairo. (B)
Day 14 Tuesday – Giza Sightseeing
Meet in hotel lobby with the tour guide to begin the sightseeing excursion with a visit to Memphis, ancient capital of Egypt dating from 3100 BC which contains the beautiful representation of King Ramses II through his colossal statue. Then proceed to Sakkara to see the world-famous Step Pyramid of King Zoser, the oldest known of Egypt’s 107 Pyramids. At the Pyramids area, visit the Three Pyramids built for Pharaohs Cheops, Chephren & Mycerinus and the mysterious Sphinx. After tour transfer to hotel for overnight. (B, L)
Day 15 Wednesday -Cairo- Nile Cruise to Luxor
Today, you will be transferred to Cairo airport for flight to Luxor meet with our representative and transfer to board the Nile Cruise. Embarkation before lunch. (B,L,D)
Day 16 Thursday – Luxor
Free time in the morning. Afternoon you will meet with your guide and depart to visit the Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple. Stay overnight in Luxor. (B,L,D)
Day 17 Friday -Luxor -The West Bank- Esna
Sail to Esna. Cross to the West Bank of the Nile to visit the Valley of Kings & Queens, a vast City of the dead where magnificent tombs were carved into the desert rocks and filled with treasures for the afterlife by generations of Pharaohs. Then proceed to the foot of the cliff to see the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the only woman who ruled Egypt in Pharaonic History. Return back to cruise and evening at leisure. Overnight onboard cruise. (B, L, D)
Day 18 Saturday – Edfu- Kom Ombo- Aswan
Cruise sail to Edfu. On arrival visit the Temple of Horus, the largest and most complete preserved Temple combining Pharaonic and Greek architectures. The cruise sails to Kom Ombo & upon arrival visit The Temple of Sobek & Haroeris, dedicated to the crocodile-god Sobek. The temple stands at a bend in the Nile where in ancient times sacred crocodiles basked in the sun on the river bank. Return to the cruise & Overnight onboard cruise. (B, L, D)
Day 19 Sunday- Aswan Cairo
After breakfast disembark the cruise. Visit the high Dam, Philae Temple. Explore Elephantine island on felucca. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Cairo. Upon arrival meet and transfer to hotel. Overnight stay in Cairo. (B,L)
Day 20 Monday- Departure
Breakfast, checkout and per your international flight departure time meet for transfer to Cairo Airport. (B)
